Why Has Hillary Really Left her Post? Part II

Posted on: February 9, 2013

Recently I blogged that perhaps Hillary Clinton is leaving her post as Secretary of State not so much because she has had a grueling schedule but rather that she has kind of mucked things up in much of the world, which may not have been due to her diplomatic method but rather that she is a woman and certain parts of the world don’t generally respond well to women in positions of authority more so than other parts of the world. But then there was Madeleine Albright, the first female Secretary of State, who was quite successful, though perhaps she may not have had such a grueling lineup as Hillary Clinton.

Most believe Hillary Clinton was given the position in exchange for her bringing those who would have voted for her in the 2008 Presidential election to the winning administration’s campaign. It may have been in fact the votes needed to make for a decisive election.

So for the current administration, it was a successful, strategic move to offer her a cabinet position in exchange for her potential constituency.

Clearly, though, the choice of Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State may not have been such a spectacular choice for America and it raises the question (beware, wishful thinking follows) of whether such backroom dealing, trading of votes for favors and appointments, shouldn’t be legislated out of the repertoire of our elected somehow? It’s possible she may have done well as President herself, but as Secretary of State, I believe she has done some serious damage and has discredited herself in terms of foreign policy for future political avenues.

Foreign Diplomat, 2009, “Hey Hillary, weren’t you running for President? How’d you get the Secretary of State position?”

Hillary Clinton, “Wouldn’t you like to know?” Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

Foreign Diplomat, “Nah, not really. They like to hang people or hack them to death with machetes for that kind of thing around here. Better keep it to yourself. You never know who is listening.”
