Once again here is my annual holiday message:

Now that the holiday season is upon us I want to remind everyone not to forget the less fortunate, those who serve the country and our communities, and also to consider the natural future of our planet and its environment. The following are some organizations that I support regularly or volunteer with that could use your support, too.

You may donate by clicking directly on the links in this text. In no particular order, here they are:

The USO https://secure.uso.org/?sc=WEBDONTRIL  Supporting the morale, welfare, and recreation of troops around the world and helping them stay connected.

Paralyzed Veterans of America http://www.SupportVeterans.org  A great organization dedicated to serving veterans suffering from spinal injuries.

Disabled American Veterans http://www.dav.org  DAV will help you get to the VA for medical visits or complete paperwork associated with VA claims and specializes in working with veterans injured in combat.

Homes for Our Troops  http://hfotusa.org is an organization with an excellent goal, “To build mortgage-free, specially adapted homes nationwide for severely injured Veterans Post-9/11, to enable them to rebuild their lives.”

I have worked as a volunteer on one of these homes doing general things, handing roofing shingles up to the roofers, carrying wood to work locations, that kind of thing. They always need people. You can see if there is a home scheduled to be built in your area and volunteer by visiting their website. http://hfotusa.org

Audubon http://www.audubon.org/  One of the most active organizations in seeing that our natural world is monitored and conserved. The Audubon Society does some incredible things when it comes to helping to restore and conserve natural environments. Take your kids to an Audubon Conservation Center for a guided hike and you will see what I mean.

The International Crane Foundation
https://www.savingcranes.org/  Eleven of the fifteen crane species face extinction, eleven of the fifteen species!

And don’t forget about your local food pantry. There is one in every town.

I must have heard so-called economists claim five times this week in the news that current rates of inflation are “healthy” and that there must always be a certain level of inflation to protect markets.

The problem with that “mouthpiece” for the source sentiment is that it is not accompanied by a parallel statement that a certain level of wage increase is also healthy for the economy. Markets are not the sole part of an economy, they are only a portion of it. If the markets are doing well but the population is not, that is not a healthy economy. Therefor, healthy markets do not by themselves signify a healthy economy, they only signify healthy markets.

If the FED targets inflation to be in under three or four percent annually, over a period of five years that is a roughly fifteen to sixteen percent increase in costs to the consumer, the consumer who rarely sees such an increases in wages annually. In fact it is common knowledge that the American worker hasn’t seen an average wage increase in several decades.

So, the FED is actually working to undermine the working person in America by stimulating inflation but doing nothing for the working stiff. Knowing that the American worker hasn’t seen an average wage increase in decades, it is like a slow but real form of starvation that the FED is implementing in a way by enforcing inflation.

In today’s world all kinds of taxes are applied during the transaction, the sales transaction, the payment transaction, you name it.

For instance: you see an advertisement for a television you have been watching the price on at the local retailer and the price suddenly drops $300.00, so it is time to buy. The advertised price is $499.99. But of course, that’s not the price. The price is really $499.99 times the sales tax multiplier or $499.99 times .056 (sales tax where I live is roughly 5.6%), which is $527.99, not $499.99. The government automatically taxes $28.00 for that television, but the government doesn’t properly regulate the media broadcasting on that television (but that’s another observation).

That would be a prime example for sales tax. The prices advertisers publish for a product should be the price with sales tax added, or the “True Price” or “True Cost” of something you are purchasing.

We all know there will be a sales tax placed on items but many rarely budget for it and I believe that is one of the reasons people have problems budgeting, invisible taxes that are not published along with the price published but that are always there.
